Introducing Markus of Detroit: Become Human

Markus is one of the three leading characters in the game.

Like most people playing the game, I was initially drawn towards Connor. He was the funny one, a bit like Data from Star Trek and in the end, he was more a comic relief than an interesting choice to write fanfics about for me.

Don't get me wrong, Connor is incredibly popular with the fanbase and there's a ton of explicit fanfics on AO3 about him. For me though, he's too "goofy" and "oblivious", character-wise. And, as a really big surprise here (cuz I'm totally into brunettes), he's not really my type. His eyes are too deeply set and to close together. I don't really like the many moles he has either.

Anyway, long story short:

the game has only two "interesting" attractive male characters

One is Detective Connor, an Prototype RK800. The other one is also a prototype, a bit older than Connor and totally my type, lol.

And he ticks all the right boxes for me

interesting eyes, pleasant features, soft lips, sexy hands, tall, brunette (kind of), sexy body (as in: broad-shouldered and athletic), pleasant voice...

He also has a kind and gentle personality, and he's definitely not as naive as Connor. He's the "gentle pacifist".

But that is also the biggest beef that I have with Markus' story in the game. Because it feels totally forced and hard to believe for me.

His owner is rich. Markus has a pleasant life, he's wearing pretty (and probably expensive) clothes. His owner is also friendly and pro-android. In fact, he sees Markus more like a surrogate android-son in the end.

But after his "awakening", aka becoming "alive", he suddenly talks about having been a slave and starts an android uprising. I mean, seriously? And he takes a psychotic female android as his lover. WTF?

Because the human female love interest had been scrapped from the half-finished game (too much content, not enough time). Awww, guys, really?

Anyway, that's what fanfics are for. :D

I totally adore Connor as the detective and his "cases" are really interesting to solve in the game. Markus' whole existence after his "accident", however, is so lousily written I felt, to be honest, offended by the sudden passive-aggressive stance he had against humans all of a sudden. I get it, he was "raised" by a great man who's had a lot of influence on his way of thinking. That's why I'm glad that Markus can choose a pacifist approach for the uprising instead of just a violent one.

Him just trying to survive and escape would have been a better story. And Kara, the only female android with an important story, she should've been the one leading the rebellion because she knows only violence at the hand of humans. It would really make so much more sense. And Markus maybe returning to Carl for a very last reunion, with him then trying to leave Detroit to save himself, with Kara's storyline playing out for him, THAT would make sense. He could have met characters taking him in and with him staying a while before having to leave again (nasty family members trying to get rid of him, super-jealous ex-boyfriend, the cops catching up with him again, etc.) In short: a bit like a Dr. Kimble storyline, that would've totally fitted his character, with him proving along the way just how gentle and kind androids really could be.
